More new stuff

Caroline seems to be doing something new every day. First of all, we started Kindermusik last week and we went to our second class today. It is really fun for both of us. We sing, dance, play instruments and interact with other babies. Caroline kind of goes into her shell a little bit during class. I have noticed that she seems to get overwhelmed around lots of people. So, she is quiet and looks and listens, but her happy, smiley side doesn't come out. I'm sure it will once she gets used to class and the other people.
She is still progressing with crawling. She is starting to move her legs forward one at a time a little. Her new thing is to rock and then do a belly flop down on the floor. She also had started doing the plank (if you know the yoga pose)-- crawling position with her arms but up on her tip toes with her legs out straight. Pretty funny!.
I made attempt number 2 with rice cereal. We tried it back about 3 weeks ago and she was not interested at all. So, I decided to wait a few weeks. I fed it to her again over the weekend and she was more interested but not too enthusiastic. Well, she has now started loving it and kicks her feet with exciement when she sees me mixing it up and opens her mouth really wide for the spoon.
And finally, she is starting to sit a little bit without support. She can do it best in my lap and she can do it on the floor if she puts her hands down or holds her feet. I am starting to put her on the floor in the Boppy pillow to help her along a little.

It won't be long before we have to start putting up baby gates!

Up on Her Hands and Knees

This is a video of Caroline working on crawling. Babyproofing at our house may come a little earlier than expected.

A few firsts

Caroline got to see her first snow this week on Thursday. We had a light dusting in the city overnight. Mostly just on grassy areas. Due to the "snow" schools were cancelled (such a joke), so the Kindermusik class we were supposed to start on Thursday was cancelled, as well. Too bad we didn't find out until we were in the car on the way there. Oh well. Instead, we went to visit Nana up on the mountain where there was even more snow! I can't wait to take her sledding at the Signal Mtn. Golf Course, where I used to go when I was little!

Caroline also went to her first birthday party today. A friend's daughter turned one so we went to her party. It was fun. Several babies from the neighborhood close to Caroline's age were there. Everyone thought her little blue jeans were so cute-- not to mention her cool socks (thanks to Aunt Helen). We had a great time!

Other updates: Definitely still working on crawling. She actaully got up on her hands and knees for a split second yesterday. Mostly, she inchworms her way forward if we give her our hands or a leg to push off of.
She has also taken to gnawing on people's fingers and hands. And when I say gnawing, I mean it literally. The girl has a strong bite!

Thumbs Up

Caroline is changing before our eyes. When she's playing on the floor now, she much prefers to be on her tummy. And her strength to push her chest up and hold her head up on her tummy keeps getting stonger.
She has also figured out how to suck her thumb (in the traditional thumbsucking position now) and really enjoys doing that. I'm hoping that she will be able to find her thumb now in the middle of the night, instead of wanting her paci.
She is able to do most of the work to sit herself up if she has some help getting started. When she's sitting in her vibrating chair, she can lift her head, shoulders, and the top part of her back up all by herself. So, she can now reach up and swat at the little bunny that dangles above her-- in fact, today she actually grabbed it and pulled it down.
Her ability to grab and hold things is getting much more controlled and purposeful. She can reach out and pick up a toy that she wants if it is within her reach.
Another funny thing, she likes to chew on the feet of her PJ's. She just brings her foot toward her face and then pulls on the footy part until she gets in her mouth.
Every day seems to bring a new surprise from our little girl.

Caroline Goes to the Doctor

Caroline had her 4 month check-up yesterday. Everything looked great. She weighs 14 lbs 12 oz and is 25 1/2 inches. So, she has almost doubled her birth weight of 7 lbs 10 oz and she has grown 5 1/2 inches. WOW!

She got her second set of shots and did really well with them. And mom did much better this time around too.

Caroline has all kinds of new tricks to show off. When we put her on the floor to play, she immediatley rolls over onto her tummy and will stay there and play contentedly for 5 minutes or so. She usually will roll back over herself but sometimes gets stuck and frustrated so we help her roll back over. She can now lift her chest up off the floor by extending her arms when she is on her tummy. She has also started lifting her bottom up a little bit, as if she is trying to start crawling. Yesterday, she actually scooted herself backward while she was on her tummy. It looks like we may be getting close to crawling. She is an amazing little person!
