2 month check-up

Caroline had her 2 month dr.'s appointment today. She weighs 12 lbs 11 oz and is 23 1/4 in. That puts her in the 75th-90th percentile for both height and weight. The doctor said she was perfectly healthy (he also said she was pretty, but we won't brag!) She got her immunizations also. Four shots in the thighs. She cried. I cried. But all is well. She seems to be quite sleepy this afternoon but having a hard time staying asleep. Nothing too out of the ordinary but just a little fussy.
The three of us are headed to Destin tomorrow morning. Yipee!

Caroline goes to the photographer

I took Caroline to have some professional photos done today. LAst night, I had a little anxiety about having a scheduled appointment time and trying to get us there on time all by myself. The day went really well. Caroline woke up early, I fed her and she was wide awake so I gave her a bath. Then she went down for a good nap which allowed me to take a shower. And then she woke up at the perfect time to allow me to feed her again and then get to the studio. I think she knew that we were on a schedule- yeah, right! Anyway, as she was nursing before we left, I was thinking, wow, this really working out right on schedule and very smoothly and then...........I hear a big pooping sound from Caroline. Which isn't all that unusual when she eating. But then I feel something warm on my leg. And I look down at my jeans (yes, I was dressed to go already) and there is poop on my jeans and on the Boppy pillow and on the carpet. NICE! SO, my smooth morning was slightly disrupted by having to clean that up and wouldn't you know it was right after she had a bath. Well, I guess it's just good that she got it all out before the pictures b/c some of them were taken without a diaper. The photo session went really well and I will see proofs next week. I think they are going to be great. I used the same photographer that did our wedding, so I know he is good.

Caroline held objects in her hands for the first time today. She had held a little ring-shaped rattle a little bit before. But, she was holding them and moving them up to her face.. like she wanted to put them in her mouth. She licked them but never actually chewed on them. She didn't want to let go and held them all the way through her diaper change

A Little Bling

This week was a challenge for me. I decided that Caroline needed to learn to sleep in the bassinet and Caroline decided that she absolutely would not learn to sleep in the bassinet. We spent hours fighting each other and by Friday, I was pulling my hair out with frustration.
I was in the kitchen Friday night and Chris walked in carrying Caroline and said they had a present for me. Chris had put a necklace around Caroline's neck. It is a very delicate silver chain with round diamonds spaced evenly all the way around. It can be worn either as a long chain or a double loop. It is beautiful and could not have come at a better time! A little bling always makes a girl feel better!
I had my 15 year high school reunion this weekend. My two best friends came into town from Atlanta. One of their mom's lives here in Chattanooga and we went to her house for dinner Friday night. Caroline did great on this outing. She was content the whole night. The reunion party was Saturday night and this was my first time leaving Caroline for more than an hour. Chris stayed home with Caroline so that I could go to the reunion. I must admit I was less than thrilled about the idea of leaving her earlier in the week, but once my friends got here, I was ready to spend time with them. It all went great-- Chris is a wonderful and very capable dad so it didn't even phase me to leave.
Caroline continues to become more alert and aware of her environment. She still loves to look at lights, especially the recessed lights in our ceiling. She is back to sleeping in her carseat at night and the swing during the day when she won't stay asleep in the carseat. Yes, mom lost the battle, but we are both much happier and well-rested with this arrangement!

2 Months!!!!

Caroline was 2 months old yesterday. It has gone by so fast!

She has discovered her tongue and likes to stick it in and out of her mouth--and in and out and in and out. She is also sucking on her tongue too! It's quite funny. She continues to smile more and more and new sounds come out of her mouth all the time. I swear she will be talking soon!

She also rolled over from her tummy to her back all by herself today! Twice--once for me and once for Chris. When she did it for me, I thought I must have had her partially on her side b/c I thought it was way too soon for her to be doing this yet. But then Chris said he did it for her too. We both had her on her tummy in the Baby Einstein play mat and she just rolled herself right over. COOL!

Over the weekend, my dad (Pop) came home from Orlando. Caroline and I picked him up from the airport on Saturday morning. She did great on the way to the airport and to my parents house, sleeping most of the way. We stayed and visited with Pop at his house for an hour or so. This was Caroline's first time at Nana and Pop's house. She liked sitting with Pop in his big rocker. The trip home was not as easy. Caroline cried most of the way home. I even thought at one point that she was in pain b/c she was crying so hard--that maybe part of the carseat strap was hurting her. Once we got in the garage and I got her out, she calmed down but she was hot and sweaty. Not sure if this was just b/c she was crying so hard or if she got hot and that caused her to cry. The sun was definitely shining in the back window most of the time. I think I will get one of those sunshades that stick onto the window. I did notice her turning away from the bright sun a lot.

The rest of the weekend, we just stayed home. Nana and Pop came over for pizza on Sunday night. Caroline slept in the swing through most of their visit.

She is off and on with the bottle. She wouldn't take one from Chris on Saturday--but I think it's b/c I had picked her up from her nap, not realizing she was hungry yet. Not good planning on our part. But yesterday, she took one from Nana without any problem. I had left the house for a bit and just came back home as Nana was fixing the bottle, so I made sure Caroline didn't know I was home. No problems. So, I definitely think the key is for me to stay away at bottle time.

We have been putting Caroline to sleep in the bassinet the past 2 nights. The carseat thing was still working, but she manages to wiggle her way down in the seat so that her head is in the bottom of the seat and her legs are sticking straight out. It's kind of funny to see, but it makes us nervous that she might not be able to breathe in that position. She has done well in the bassinet. She definitely wakes up more often but she goes right back to sleep after she nurses. It is really great that she is never fussy in the middle of the night!

We are planning to post more recent pictures soon!
