Our first social outing

Yesteday morning, Caroline woke up with a stuffy nose. We could hear it in her breathing. But, there was nothing visible to suction out. So, we put her in the showe with Chris, hoping that the steam would loosen things up. And it did. And then I spent about 30 minutes with the bulb syringe trying to get the boogers out of her nose. I was afraid I was going to suck her brain out through her nose. But, it worked and her breathing was all cleared up.

Last night, the three of us went over to some friends house for dinner. It was our first true outing with Caroline. How things have changed compared to our child-free days! First of all, the amount of stuff we had to pack up was ridiculous. You would think we were leaving for an overnight trip. Second, there is strategy involved. Caroline became fussy right about the time we were supposed to eat dinner. So, Chris soothed her while I ate dinner and then we traded off. She ended up in full-blown wailing mode and Chris spent a lot of the night in one of the bedrooms rocking Caroline in her carseat (it was one of my girlfriend's birthday, so he let me be hang out with the girls). We have great friends, who all have children themselves and are very understanding of the temperment of babies this age. Nonetheless, it was a fun night and nice to take Caroline out.

Caroline finally smiled at Chris a couple of days ago. It was so cute and I know it was a special moment for him.

We seem to have a problem with Caroline getting heat rash on her face. Anytime she falls asleep on one of us, which is happening less and less these days, she wants to bury her face on our arm or chest. She had a really bad breakout at the beginning of last week. It was so bad on her ear that it kind of blistered and then crusted over. It didn't seem to bother her, but it's enough to make you feel like a delinquent parent. Now she has it again on the other side of her face. She ended up sleeping with me again last night after our outing. I really tried to not let her put her face on me, but I guess she wiggled her way to my arm when I was asleep.
