Mastering the Bowl and Spoon

Yay for me! Good job Caroline!

Shoes and Meow,Meow

Caroline loves to put on our shoes. Most of the time, she puts them on all by herself and walks around the house. She actaully managed to get one of my boots on by herself-- the other one, I helped with.

This is Caroline's "meow-meow" that Nana gave her for Valentine's day. It looks just like Nana's real cat, Tar Baby. Caroline loves to play with Tar Baby (aka; chase, pull tail, squeeze, torment) when she is at Nana's and just saying Nana's name provokes Caroline to ask for "meow-meow". So, Nana got Caroline a substitute to play with at home and it's her favorite toy.

More Words

Over the past week, there have been more words that I could add to the list. Chris pointed out to me that she can really say just about anything by repeating what she hears. But, these lists are words she uses consistently and in reference to the appropriate object. Here are the other words: bird, bowl, computer ("puter"), spoon, share, moon, keys, work, fish, hat, nose, ear, mouth, teeth and Hadley ("adee).

We were outside playing one afternoon and Caroline pointed to the sky and said "moon.". Yup. Sure enough, the moon was already out in the sky. Chris and I looked at each other in complete surprise that she could point out the moon.

Often during the day Caroline will ask about Chris, saying "Daddy?". And I tell her daddy is at work. So, now she says "daddy urk" (daddy work). It's pretty cute.

I have started trying to tell Caroline that she needs to share things with other children. So, that's where she has picked up the word share. I use it often when we go to the park. Her friends Hadley and Sam have little ride-on cars with the adult push handle, and she loves to play in them when they bring them to the park. However, she wants the car all to herself and says "share" as she pushes Sam or Hadley out of their own cars. I have to stifle my laughing evey time. We're still learning about sharing and probably will be for a long time to come.

Words, Words, Words

I started compiling a list of the words Caroline can say a few weeks ago. Here it is in alphabetical order:

apple, banana, bath, ball, book, bear, bye-bye, bubble, boat, bottle, bib, baby, blueberry, bagel, chair, cheese, cracker, car, Caroline, daddy, door, diaper, eye, fire, hi, juice, light, mama, mommy, meow, night-night, no, nana, out, outside, puppy, pear, potty, poopie, peas, paci, quack-quack, shoes, stairs, share, swing, slide, teeth, uh-oh

That's 39 by my count and there are probably more that I can't think of. Of course, not all of the words are pronounced correctly and many require translation. For example, fire is "lire", paci is "poppy", swing is "ming", etc. but that's how she says them on a consistent basis. So, in my book, they count. I can't wait to add "yes" to the list-- wishful thinking, I'm afraid.
